• Insurance Presentation for Benton Teachers

Insurance agent, Mary Alice Hughes, will be at Howard Perrin School at 3:45 on Sept. 18th to talk about the cost effectiveness of the different health plans currently offered by the state. She has also provided a blog post which compares a couple of the plans and breaks down the possible out-of-pocket costs (Thank you, Mary Alice).

This week, I’ll be attending more meetings to talk about the increase in teacher’s insurance premiums and what we might can do to address the problem. In the meantime, I recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to meet with Mary Alice if you have questions about selecting the plan that is best for you.

    Respectfully,

    Rep. Kim Hammer

  • Increased Insurance Costs for School Employees

Today I am attending a meeting to talk about the increased costs of school employee health insurance and hope to gain some helpful insight into the problem and possible solutions.  Monday I will attend a joint meeting of the Education Committee and Insurance Committee in the Big Mac building in Little Rock.  Among others, we will hear from the Legislative Research office and the Employee Benefits Division regarding the history of school and state employee insurance.

Many of you have shared your thoughts on this issue, and while I may not respond to each one, I am aware of the comments and concerns you have shared so far.  I’m committed to participate in the process of gathering information and making informed decisions to hopefully resolve this problem.  I will keep you updated as I learn factual information and proposed solutions.  I also value your continued input and will read any comments, concerns or suggestions you may have.

    Respectfully,

    Rep. Kim Hammer
